John Buckingham - Chief Mechanical Engineer

John joined BMT Defence Services in 1992, after eight years of design development work on submarines and large surface ships at Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Limited.

Taking the role of Chief Mechanical Engineer in 2004, John has played a key role in BMT’s marine power and propulsion studies. Having published several papers on the subject, John leads the in-house development of analysis software for power and propulsion including advanced hybrid propulsion, LNG fuels and the use of advanced water jets.

John also offers expertise in biofuels, submarines and  rail-gun cooling but his current focus has been towards heat exchange networks and the assessment of technologies for energy efficient ships both in the commercial and defence domain.

John's qualifications include a BSc in Mechanical Engineering with French and an MSc in Hydraulics, Control and Simulation, both from the University of Bath. He is also a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
