Apprenticeships are a great alternative to university. BMT's scheme appeals to people interested in pursuing a career in engineering who want to earn while they learn.
Our apprentices are permanent members of staff who sit within one of the following departments:
- Naval Engineering
- Naval Architecture
- Systems Engineering
The apprentices attend college each week to achieve a qualification in engineering, such as:
- National Certificate in Engineering – BTEC
- Higher National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering
- Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
We anticipate that all of our apprentices will graduate the scheme having obtained a Higher National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering.
The apprentices at BMT also benefit from the support of a mentor network. Each apprentice will meet with their allocated or chosen mentor once a month, for the duration of the apprenticeship, to obtain support with their college work and guidance on their career and professional development.
The BMT Defence Services' apprenticeships have the added benefit of being approved by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). This means our apprentices have the opportunity to achieve full IMechE membership (MIMechE) and EngTech registration upon completion of the scheme.
Applications are open to all age ranges and backgrounds who have obtained GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and Science based subjects.
