Roy Quilliam - Business Development Director
Roy Quilliam came to BMT Defence Services in 1990 as a senior engineer having previously worked on submarine and surface design projects for VSEL and the UK MOD.
His extensive experience in marine engineering design spans 30 years and has allowed Roy to progress through the company, being appointed Business Development Director in 2014. Prior to this Roy held the position of Technical Director from 2003 and Head of Engineering in 1996.
He carries responsibility for developing new business opportunities, developing relationships with parties and clients, and delivering high quality tenders. His involvement in new design projects includes the QEC Aircraft Carrier, Type 45 Destroyer and Astute Class submarine. He has a broad background from concept and feasibility design through to major in service design change, and from policy issues through to practical engineering.
As a Chartered Engineer, Roy trained in electrical and electronic engineering before studying for his MSc in Marine Engineering from University College London (UCL). He has fellowships with the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology.
Roy represents BMT on the UKNEST steering group where he holds the position of Deputy Chair. He also chairs the Industry Steering Group for the UK MOD Naval Design Partnering (Ships) and is a member of the Project Board for NDP Ships.
In addition, Roy chairs the Industrial Advisory Board for the mechanical engineering department at the University of Bath, where he is also proud to hold the position of Honorary Professor.
